Projects

Crafty Volunteers invites you to join in on any of the “projects” that we have going at present.

Some will be based in your region and run by a crafting group or organisation near you. Others will be nationwide promotions run and/or promoted  by Crafty Volunteers.

Thanks for joining in…

Towel repurposing project – Wellington

In our new Crafting Workroom we currently have 8 big boxes of new/near new towels in stock, that have small rips or stains on them. These items were previously destined for landfill, and we will be giving them another life.

These towels will be repurposed into breast pads, burp cloths, face wipes, bibs and hooded towels for babies. Once made, these items will go to Little Sprouts plus other baby related charities that we work with.

During the first 3 weekends of November, we will be cutting this toweling to pattern and creating take-home sewing packs.

Find out details of dates/times HERE.

Crafting workroom – Wellington

Crafty Volunteers Wellington has been gifted the use of a venue in Central Wellington to establish a crafting workroom. Here we will be running weekly crafting days, where people can knit and crochet with other crafters.

We run our waste textile repurposing programme from this venue, where we convert donations of commercial textile that would have otherwise gone to landfill, in to items that our charity partners provide to their vulnerable clients.

Diverting waste textile from landfill; giving crafters a sense of purpose; and supplying charities with products required by their clients.

# Lockdown Charity Crafting

During the Covid 19 alert levels 3 and 4, we invite crafters to dedicate themselves to making items that charities around NZ will urgently need. Collection and distribution will depend on protocols set by our charity partners and the government alert levels.

By getting involved with this promotion you could be one of five people to win a $50 yarn voucher from Kapiti Knitting & Lotto in Paraparaumu.

Singlets and Slippers

The promotion for September to October 2019 is “Singlets and Slippers”, where we are encouraging crafters to help boost the stocks of much needed items for our charity partners that provide warmth for babies and toddlers, and to make the feet of youngsters, teenagers and adults warm and snuggly.

We are holding a number of events around the country on 12 October 2019, where we welcome crafters and our charity partners along.

Bears and Squares

We are making toys for our charity partners to build stock prior to their Christmas distribution to people in need. And we are making squares early enough to give us plenty of time to get blankets sewn together prior to next years autumn chills.

This promotion will run from mid September to mid November 2018, and we will be holding a number of events around the country on the 3rd of November to bring people together and hear about the great work that our charity partners are doing.
