We’ve had heaps of interest in the Great 10 Day Peggy Square Craft-a-thon (11-20 Sept)
I’m so delighted at the amount of interest we have received since announcing details of the Craft-a-thon in my last Blog HERE, and it looks like we are going to more than use our stash of donated yarn! In fact, I spent time this afternoon dividing it up in to smaller bags to get to the Retirement Villages, and event hosts. The bags will be sent around over the next 2 weeks.
Fortunately, some of our crafters are also donating some of their unused acrylic stash towards the cause – and we are very grateful, thank you so much!! And I think we could still do with more… So if you have any 8 ply acrylic to donate, we would happily put it to good use.
Remember we are making blankets for these charities:
- Foster Hope
- Womens Refuge
- Night Shelter
- Give a Kid a Blanket
- Kiwi Family Trust
Do you want to get involved?
Because our Committee members are based in the Greater Wellington region, we have numerous events set up over the 10 days in and around Wellington – see our information page HERE for the schedule. However we would love to have more people get involved, either by hosting a crafting session in their own home, or at a community venue – especially those of you from other areas around the country. Please email me (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you would like to host a session, and I’ll add you to the schedule and help promote it to get people there. It would be fantastic to have blankets made in other areas, for donating to the various charities in your area.
I’m very pleased to have heard from numerous individuals who want to make squares (or even complete blankets!) quietly at home. What a fabulous contribution you people are all making – thank you so much! If you’d like to help out in this way – we are making squares or strips of multiples of 15cm (e.g. 15 x 15 cm squares, 30 x 30 cm squares, or strips of 15 x 45 or 15 x 60 cm – what ever you would like to make). By keeping the square/strips in a uniform size, it will be easier to stitch together all the squares into the blankets.
We’ve even been contacted by a High School wanting to get their crafting group to help make squares – how fantastic is that?
Can you help promote the events?
We would be very grateful if people could help us promote the events, by telling your family & friends; emailing the link to this blog; sharing the Facebook posts; or putting up a few of THESE posters at work or in your community.
We are very much looking forward to next month kicking off, and meeting all of the wonderful people that attend the events, as well as seeing the donations of yarn, squares and blankets coming in.
Once again – thank you all so very much for your interest in the project.
Yours – with Love, Compassion and Hope
