Well now that the winter is upon us and the weather is deteriorating accordingly, it is a great time to get on with some guilt-free crafting for charity.
So we’ve got a few events coming up over June/July that we are either hosting, or supporting, and there will be more to follow…
Sunday 14 June – Theme “Baby cardigans, hats, blankets and facecloths”
11.00am – 4.00pm at Made Marion, 17 Marion St, CBD, Wellington
Supporting Wellington and Hutt Valley Hospitals, Little Sprouts and Kiwi Family Trust – bring along your sewing machine or your knitting needles/crochet hook, along with any donated materials or completed items, and together we will build up some stock to give to these worthy causes.
Saturday 20 June – “Sewing Bee – to keep up with patient demand for products” at the Cancer Society, 52 Riddiford St, Newtown, Wellington
2 sessions – either – 9.30am til 12.30 pm – or – 1.30pm til 4.30pm
They need 2 teams for each session – cutters and sewers. Please register your interest with the Cancer Society by Friday 12 June (email email@example.com or phone Janet on 04-3898421). Let them know which time slot suits you, whether you’re a cutter or a sewer, and the type of machine you’ll be bringing (standard or overlockers). When you register, please let them know that you heard about the event thru Crafty Volunteers.
They will gladly receive any donations of buttons (larger than 10c piece size), or fabric (stretch knit or backed curtain material). You can bring them along on the day, or can be left at reception any time.
Saturday 20 June – “Social Wool Fair”
10am – 2pm at St Anne’s Hall, Emmett St, Newtown
Go along and build your yarn stash, or have a stall and share your stash. Funds raised go to Mary Potter and Te Omanga Hospices.
Check out their website for more details – https://socialwoolfair.wordpress.com
Sunday 12 July – Little Sprouts “cutting day”- AND – Sunday 19 July – Little Sprouts “sewing day”
Both events are from 11.30am til 3.30pm at Made Marion, 17 Marion St, CBD, Wellington.
Please bring fabric scissors, and sewing machines/overlockers if you have them.
They will be making fitted cot sheets, hooded towels, burp cloths and flannels, for their wonderful baby packs.
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to confirm your attendance.
Phew! That’s a wonderful lot of charity crafting and giving right there.
Thanks to everybody that is able to attend, or donate items that can be used.
We are loving the wonderful donated items that are coming in from all sorts of people and groups around the country – keep them coming, as our charity partners are always needing more.
I look forward to seeing some of you at one or other of these events, and doing a bit of volunteer crafting with you.
Please feel free to share this blog with your family/friends, and invite them to “like” our Facebook page – https://www.facebook.com/CraftyVolunteers – we’d love to have them join us.
Yours – with Love, Compassion and Hope
